Epsom & Ewell Business Awards Officially Launch for 2025

Tuesday, 23 September, Jackie King, Chief Executive of Epsom & Ewell Borough Council, officially announced that the Epsom and Ewell Business Awards are now open for nominations. The announcement was made to an invited audience of distinguished guests including the Mayor of Epsom & Ewell, award sponsors, local business representatives, councillors and prominent borough residents at NESCOT.

The awards, which were first established in 2011, have only missed one year during their successful run. This year marks a significant change in eligibility criteria, as the awards are now exclusively open to businesses based within the Epsom and Ewell borough boundaries. Previously, entries were accepted from across the entire parliamentary constituency.

Councillor Neil Dallen expressed gratitude to this year’s sponsors, which include The Amber Group, Peacock & Co, The Family Building Society, Atkins Realis, Epsom Downs Racecourse, TWM Solicitors, Go Epsom, Epsom Square, UCA and NESCOT. Councillor Dallen commented: “We are delighted to welcome several new sponsors alongside our longstanding supporters who share our commitment to celebrating the diverse range of businesses that contribute to the vibrancy of our borough.”

Paul Taylor, owner of What’s On In Epsom and past award winner, whose organisation has been involved in promoting and organising the awards for many years, explained the key changes to this year’s format. The most significant alteration is that only businesses within the borough can now be nominated, and for the first time, businesses may only be nominated in a maximum of three categories. Mr Taylor explained: “We felt these changes were necessary to give local businesses a greater chance of recognition. Previously, the awards included the Nork, Tadworth and Ashtead areas, with several winners being based in these locations outside the borough.”

The launch concluded with thanks to NESCOT for hosting the event, and the announcement of key dates for the awards process.

All change for 2025

Lord Grayling, founded the the Business Awards more than a decade ago, in 2011.  Following his decision in 2024 not to stand again as Member of Parliament for Epsom and Ewell, he approached Epsom & Ewell Borough Council in order to secure the future of the popular event.  Epsom & Ewell Borough Council  is now working in partnership with What’s On In Epsom, (who have been involved with promoting the Awards for many years) and have taken over the organisational responsibilities to ensure the Awards continue.

The transition marks a significant milestone for the community event, which has been a fixture in the local calendar since Lord Grayling first established the awards in 2011. The awards even continued during COVID with special awards for those on the frontline of the pandemic serving the community.

Epsom & Ewell Borough Council and What’s On In Epsom express their gratitude to Lord Grayling and his team for their dedication to founding and maintaining the awards throughout their successful run.

For 2025, it’s all change with a new logo, new categories, and new sponsors. Also, new for 2025, only businesses within the borough of Epsom & Ewell will be eligible to enter.
